Abortion for unmarried girls in India is still considered a social taboo specially in remote & rural places. Many doctors, clinics & hospitals deny abortion services to unmarried girls due to social stigma, lack of awareness & myths about abortion. Family members don’t support unmarried girls due to above all circumstances. That’s why many unmarried girls land up going to quacks, unregistered practitioners & they self-medicate themselves & they go to local medical shops for abortion pills illegally which causes mortality & life-threatening complications. According to UN Population Fund [UNFPA] State of the World Population Report 2022, access to safe abortion is very important in India as “eight women die every day in India due to unsafe abortions”. So, all the unmarried girls should know the Abortion Law in India.

As per Section 3 of The Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act [MTP], 1971, (1) The Amendment Act 2021 (2) & the landmark judgment X v. The Principal Secretary & Anr.
