What is Medical Abortion?
The Medical Abortion is a procedure that uses medication to terminate a pregnancy. It's safe and effective upto 7 weeks of pregnancy. This method is also called Induced Abortion. Abortion through medicine can be choosen through doctor's advice as as only the doctors registered with the Government can prescribe and give medicines for the termination of pregnancy.
Requirement for Medical Abortion
• The Ultrsound scan is essential to know the gestational period of the foetus.
Advantages of Medical Abortion
• This method doesn't require any surgery as its a non-invasive procedure.
Disadvantages
- • Severe bleeding PV till1 to 2 weeks
- • Cramps in abdomen and
- • Higher risk of retained products of conception (RPOC). The bleeding PV with
cramps in abdomen remains till 8 to 10 days and depends upon patient to patient.
- Requirement after Medical Abortion
- An Ultrasound is required after 2 weeks to rule out the incomplete abortion or RPOC.
It is necessary for medical abortion that the medicines should be taken only from the doctors registered with the government for the termination of pregnancy.
